Tomorrow morning I am running a 12K road race called City 2 Surf. I will run from the city centre along the Avon River out to just past my house. This will be the first road race I’ve done apart from the one and only triathlon I did years ago. I’m hoping that this will be a little more civilized than that was. I should think it would be – the most uncivilized part of the tri was the swimming. People swam on top of me, bashed me in the face and all out did whatever they had to to get ahead. It wasn’t all on purpose (though some of it was), its just clumsy swimming with loads of other people around you. Back then, I also felt highly unprepared for the swim, as compared to right now – I feel ready for this run.
My pre-race week has been a bit sketchy. Running wise I had 2 strong runs on Monday and Tuesday, then rested up and had a quick 5K on Friday, just to loosen up my muscles for the race on Sunday. I also made sure to eat right this week and not very spicy or greasy so that I don’t have any stomach upsets on the day. So that’s all fine…But its the night before and today was not what I thought it’d be.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ve ended up having to defrost our fridge today so that the guy we sold it to can pick it up tomorrow. In the meantime, we couldn’t get hold of the people we were getting our fridge off of today. Needless to say – the little amount of food we had survived, but we didn’t go out and do a big shop and by dinner time tonight hubby and I were both shattered so we picked up dominos instead. I know, I know what you’re saying, pizza is hardly the dinner of champions, but it could be worse, right?
I’m just back from the grocery store where I picked up some milk, eggs, my fave muesli and a few other bits and pieces. Unfortunately for me, hubby asked me to pick him up an Easter creme egg for him. Believe it or not, among the stacks of Easter choc, I could not find one easter creme egg, so I opted for a bag of mini eggs, problem is that I of course had to sample 1 or 2….or 4 – its a selection bag after all.
I’m now drinking a bedtime tea (peppermint and chamomille), hoping that it will calm my wizzing brain and send me off to lalaland. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow. The City 2 Surf is an iconic run/walk fun run with die hard runners, walking families, roller bladers, and even crazy costumed groups.
If you’d like to track my run in real-time, you can always check out my Runkeeper page. They now have a fantastic feature where you can see my route as I run it as well as any pictures I take along the way.
If you’ve got any last minute advice for me, I’d love to hear it? I’ll probably check in one last time.
Night, shower and a quick prayer for Master P to sleep through the night and I’m off to bed.
Who can believe that it is already the 1st of March? Where have the first 2 months of 2010 already gone?
