Playtime Magic

Playtime Magic

Scandal has surrounded the safety of particularly wooden toys and the materials used to make them. Jessica from Playtime Magic decided that if she was not able to find the durable and safe wooden toys that she wanted for her daughters, she would make them herself.

What is your name and how many children do you have?
My name is Jessica and I have 3 little girls between the ages of 1 and 4 years old.

What is your business and how long has it been running?
We manufacture wooden educational toys and development systems and have been running since September 2008 so theoretically we are still new in the toy industry but working everyday to achieve our goals and promote our brand “Playtime Magic”.

When did you decide to start your business? What was the light bulb moment when you decided that you had to start your business?
We started Playtime Magic when we noticed a lack of affordable NZ made wooden toys. Most that were found could not guarentee that they were 100% safe which in our terms means better child safety standards then the standard laws issued by every country. The reward systems came about after I couldn’t find anything suitable for my oldest daughter that would last as I didn’t want to keep having to buy replacement stickers for a chart so therefore the reward systems were designed.

How do you balance work and family?
To be honest I am still working on a balance but so far timing has been playing a big part.

What is up ahead for your business in the future?

Lots we hope!! We have new products due to launch next week, a new retailer overseas so far but overall we have alot of goals we would love to achieve so we just keep working towards them.

How has your life changed from BC (before child)?
Alot! I myself went from being a total geek analysing sheets of code to being a stay at home mum but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What have been your greatest accomplishments in business? And your greatest struggles?

Our greated accomplishment and also struggle so far has to be the development of the wholesale side of our business. It’s been a pretty full on learning curve, we are still learning even now.

How can people find out more about your products?
By visiting the links below or even feel free to contact us directly.

Thanks, Jessica!
