Review: Big Jigs My First Train Set

Lisa at Wooden Toy Store was lovely enough to send me a Big jigs first train set for Preston to trial. It has fast become one of his favorite toys. The manufacturer suggests that the set would be best for 3+ but we decided to give it a try even though Preston is 21 months. I’m happy to say that he is definitely getting enjoyment out if even though he is younger than recommended. The only thing he is not able to do is put the tracks together without a bit of help from mum. But he is actually learning how to do this just after a few weeks.

He can link the trains together with the attached magnetics and push them around the track or give them one big push and watch them zoom around – it actually sends him into a bit of the giggles. This set gets a big thumbs up for challenging a toddler’s manual dexterity, while being enyoyable. The included houses with roofs and pine trees add yet another dimension to the set. He didn’t really focus on the houses and trees at first, but is now train2starting to take notice of them, pulling them apart and placing them where he thinks they should go.

Great wooden train set that is bound to last much longer than many of the plastic fantastic sets out there at the moment. Also said to be compatible with other train sets on the market.

Toys are meant to be fun. So its nice when you come across toys like this one that are durable, enjoyable and provide an opportunity for children to extend motor skills. Its a win-win situation.

I’m also really looking forward to taking this train on the road with us while we travel. It will pack down to very little – and if I really need to make a little extra room, I can just pack the train set and trains leaving the houses and trees behind.

If you’d like to check out the train set visit Wooden Toy Store.
