Welcome to another installment in a regular Monday Series of posts called Buzz Tips. I will be answering questions mainly on Social Media, Twitter, and Wordpress blogging from the Girlstoys subscribers. To those of you that know me around the twitterverse and on various forums, I answer alot of questions about the internet, internet marketing and Twitter among other social media and marketing topics so I figured, why not turn it into something regular. If you would like specific one on one assistance, please check out my newly launched corporate site.
To have your question answered all you have to do is join up to the newsletter by entering your email address and name in the form on the right sidebar – easy. Then send your question to ghada [at] girlstoys [dot] co [dot] nz
This week’s question is pretty straight forward, but the reply is worth more than one post, so I will cover this topic over several weeks:
What’s all the hoopla around Social Bookmarking?
Social bookmarking is a more advanced and I’d have to say organized way of bookmarking web pages for future reference. With the use of tags, and on a web page rather than on your local computer, you can bookmark a web page. It can then later be accessed from anywhere you can access the web. On a personal level this is hugely advantageous as you can get to your bookmarks anywhere without needing your regular computer.
The Social part comes in to play because you can easily share your bookmarks with friends just by sharing your social bookmark page. Anyone els on the site can also browse/search your bookmarks – that’s where the tags come in handy. Their are hundreds of social bookmarking services, I will look at a variety of these over the month of July in Buzz Tips. But first off, let me tell you why you need to get into social bookmarking for the sake of your blog.
You can submit and tag your own web pages on social bookmarking sites. Be warned, that some social bookmarking sites frown heavily on you doing this – so please check before bookmarking any of your own pages, alas you be noted as a spammer. Even for sites where you can submit your own bookmarks (like delicious) it is still a good idea to only bookmark your very best posts only once in awhile.
If you can make it easy for others to bookmark your posts, then the more people that bookmark the more buzz you get around your particular post. If your post gets Stumbled or bookmarked on delicious for example, this will generate buzz on these sites and bring more traffic to your site. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, but it is yet another avenue to getting your blog posts out there and generating new traffic.
Remember, when submitting/bookmarking your own posts, make sure it is some of your best. That way you are playing an active role in putting your best foot forward and attracting new targeted readers that will hopefully become regulars.
If you found this post at all informative please consider sharing it…social bookmarking, eh! See how I make it easy for you to do. My preferred social bookmarking sites are StumbleUpon and delicious, but you can also retweet or choose from any of the others below.
Thanks and til next week when we continue to delve into Social boomarking.
Cheers
