Couch to 5K Week 4: I’m running for food

This week I am running to eat. Ok, I may be a little dramatic…But let me explain.

It has been raining almost non-stop for the past 4 days. The worst part has been the heavy early morning rain, that’s right, when I’m meant to be out for my run at the crack of dawn when only the birds are chirping, the rain is at its heaviest. So for C25K Week 4 Day 1 and 2 I’ve been woken by rain, not my beeping alarm. My fuzzy brain has quickly tried to form a mental picture of my wardrobe and unfortunately (or fortunately?) I can’t think of a single wet weather item that will make a run in horizontal rain even bearable. I think to myself how much I like my morning runs, but quickly counter it when I get an instant chill at thinking of how wet and cold I will be by the end of it.

But not to be detered, I change my running habits just for this week. Instead of early morning I run after picking up Master Energy Ball and as soon as hubby gets home. It’s worked out well, and I’m not sure that I won’t keep it up next week. I enjoyed running for food. I ran when the sky opens up late in the day and the sun tries to peak out, I ran after an energizing (sometimes zapping) catch up with my wee guy running around the house and playing toy cars, I ran just before dinner and I felt good when I came home and was able to fuel myself, not just eat cause I felt like it. For some reason, I felt so grateful for what I had in front of me on the table at dinner, as if I’d earned it.

This week, I’m running for food, and to stay sane and to feel alive. This week I have needed to be out in the open and run more than ever. I’m halfway through C25K and loving every minute of it.

What are you doing this week to stay sane?

Morning workouts still work better for me right now, but doing them later in the day is also an option when unforeseen circumstances come up. I”m lucky to have a pretty flexible schedule since I freelance from my house. Congratulations on your progress! I'm enjoying the program, too… my W5D3 is tomorrow!
