Couch to 5K Week 5: I’m feeling inspired
Today was Day 1 of Week 5 and I have to say I am getting antsy (in a good way) for the Day 3 run. Instead of 3 of the same interval runs for the week, the intervals are increasing and by day 3 I’ll be doing a 20 minute run. I’m excited cause I can really feel that I am getting closer to the aim of running 5K comfortably.
I run for myself, to clear my brain, get some “me” time, because its good for my skin, and of course to keep the weight down. Overall I do it because it feels good. I’m lucky – I get to run through fields, through a golf course and along the beach (sorry to my North American C25K friends who are running through the winter).
As I’ve said before, even though I feel great after, its not always easy to drag my butt out there, so some times I have to look for inspiration in others. My big sister inspires me (she’s also the only one I’ve got), she’s been my biggest fan for a long time, whether it be in my professional endeavors or in my personal life and with her own running. She is the one that made me think about taking up running as it has been her solace in so many ways in the last few years.
I wouldn’t be able to head out alone if it weren’t for my babysitter, aka my husband. Seriously though, he is so much more than a babysitter (or even husband) he is my best friend and he encourages me to do whatever I need to to feel good about myself. To be honest, if I didn’t want to run he would support that too. He can tell when I need a nudge or when something just isn’t right. Thanks to him, I can hit the open road and leave the mommy guilt behind – the guilt for not being there at bedtime or when Mr P wakes up screaming for no apparent reason.
On top of those 2 crazy lugs, I’ve met some interesting people on The Couch to 5K Running Plan group on Facebook. Check it out if you are thinking about the program, great tips and inspiring stories from others.
Lastly, nothing is more inspiring then knowing that you have inspired someone else! I was excited when one of my friends mentioned that she’d started the program after not having “run anywhere, not even for a bus” in the last 25 years. Here’s to Angela for being inspired and inspiring me to get to week 9.
