Blame it on the rain…a training update

So we’re nearly coming to the end of a summer that never really was in New Zealand. Christchurch has been alot of rainy days speckled with a few sunny days here and there. But the last 2 week’s rain really kicked my behind. There is nothing worst that having the alarm go off at 5.30 AM to hear rain, see no sun and know that you are meant to get up for a run. Yeah, that’s right 5.30 on a summer’s morn should be light and sunny with the bell birds chirping – but the past 2 weeks it feels like everyday is a rain day.

I had one brilliant day where it was just lightly raining. I got up and dressed in complete darkness (note to self, fix the cross back clips on my bra the night before, its not easy fiddling with a bra by the light of an iPhone!) and started out in 3 layers to keep myself warm – it was cold at that hour. Halfway through the 8K run I was stripping off a merino top and somehow the rain made me feel refreshed not all wet and soggy as I had convinced myself before I took off that it would.

The great thing is that even though I grumbled and whined about the rain I still managed to get in 3 runs and 2 conditioning days last week. All that to prove that even on an off week, I only derailed from the program by one day. Instead of 1 rest day I had 2 last week – not bad. Hmmm…this running thing is becoming more and more of an addiction.

And as usual, to sum up my week, I gotta leave you with a video. This is an oldie, but a goodie…well its an oldie, not so sure about the goodie part, but definitely should bring a smile to your face.

Hope your week is off to a rocking start :)

As always, you can check out my Runkeeper running log. Alot of the maps are private to protect myself from stalkers :)

Sorry to hear about all the rain in your neck of the woods. We’re currently struggling with too much snow. LOL. Thanks for the music flashback.
