Body can’t run without fuel….a training update
So if you have read a couple of my posts over the last few months, you will know that I am in the middle of DIY Purgatory. We are doing everything imaginable – painting walls, adding walls, sanding back walls and adding in a brand new kitchen. This past week we got into the kitchen. After going back and forth with the kitchen designer we made our order and anxiously picked up our flat pack kitchen. First bad sign was that they couldn’t find it, but after much kerfuffle, they did. Unfortunately, the week has been a bit topsy turvy and we haven’t managed to actually install it as yet. So, I am without a functioning kitchen. Its horrible, horrendous, icky and difficult.
We are barbecueing alot, thanks to a gloriously late arrival of summer and truly I can’t be a$$ed to be in the kitchen for very long, so our salads are less involved than they usually are. One evening when my husband worked late, I shared a sandwich with Master P and prefered going to bed slightly hungry than venturing through gib board, buckets of paint and pushing aside power tools to make a decent meal.
By midweek I was feeling the affects of not really eating properly. I made a call to have one less run day – down from 4 to only 3, problem with that is as soon as I psyched myself out it just became easier and easier to do. One morning I heard a bit of rain and I decided that was enough for me to roll back over and go to sleep – wuss! Anyhow, 3 runs out of 4 isn’t bad. The Hal Higdon plan I am following allows for 3-4, but it also calls for cross training on 3 days of the week…ummmm, and again that is where the lack of fuel failed me. I did zero, nada, zip in terms of cross training.
Sometimes you have to slow down a little to appreciate what you are doing well and what you are doing wrong in training. I still don’t have a kitchen, but feeling much more prepared this week and we have rearranged things so that its easier to get around. By slowing down last week I think I averted a cold. Master P and hubby are packing some nasty germs and I do NOT want to get them, so opting for an extra hour of sleep on a couple of days was worth it. I still managed some great runs, including my second 10K in as many weeks.
How’s your training going? What are you training for – I’d love to hear?
